One of the users on the forum noticed some aggressive targeted advertising from Presonus on Facebook today.
I don’t know about you, but that really rubs me the wrong way. REAPER is not a real DAW? Dirty move Presonus.
The official advertisement for the 48hr crossgrade sale is below. REAPER is listed among the qualifying ‘bloated’ DAWs. HA!
There are more problems with this ad.
First, you can’t sell a crossgrade without insulting the other companies?
Second, the list of DAWs is really messed up.
- Performer and MOTU are listed separately, rather than MOTU Digital Performer
- “PropellerheadsRecord” It’s called Reason 6. At least attack a product that is current.
- WTF is “DigitalACID”?
- You missed Cool Edit Pro and Audacity :p
On the other hand, it’s nice to see REAPER being seen as competition. The success of REAPER is entirely built from A) the most efficient code possible, and B) word of mouth recommendations from users. Cockos doesn’t advertise AT ALL, and they don’t attack Presonus, AVID, Steinberg or any company.

Jon, I completely agree. This is just plain stupid. And it’s a great reminder that Facebook is not free. They are selling a product, namely us, to a customer, namely the advertisers. Boo. At least get your facts straight, Presonus.
BTW, sorry for the ad hominem attack on Facebook. That made no sense whatsoever in regards to the story. I think I just have some latent aggression stored up. Presonus is still either a) stupid or b) outright deceitful. Or both.
I’m sure Presonus is a fine company, but they’d better reign in their ad wizards before they do some permanent damage.

this really is not nice at all, agreed! they better advertise with features, as others do it!
First rule of advertising is “Know your target audience!” And the audience that uses Reaper is not going to be swayed by childish insults. We *might* be swayed by some sort of evidence that PreSonus has a product that may be superior to the competition’s. But there’s not much evidence of that in their advertising. And if PreSonus doesn’t understand their target audience, how are they going to design a product for us?
That’s it! I disliked them on Facebook immediately!! Shitty move by Presonus.

Actually, I went away from Studio One to REAPER. No regrets at all.
I don’t understand how it is NO-ONE EVER mentions Reaper among their so called supports all “major DAWs” list. Reaper is clearly the most powerful DAW around including J-ware such as SampliNude, Hell even BlowTools, who’s DAWs either Won’t even run without crashing x times/hour, doesn’t support 7.1 surround down-mixing unless you shell out $3000.00 , requires you to purchase some $50 dongle simply to run their TRIAL, and the list just continues.. What has happened to this world, it’s completely MAD!?!
