I’ve been using the beta of REAPER 5 for a few months now and the thing I’ve been most impressed with is all the new video features. While it’s not a complete solution for video work it’s more than enough to produce my video tutorials. I’ve edited about 8 videos in it so far and it’s been pretty smooth save for a few minor limitations.

In this video I show some of the options and preferences that help with video work, creating a custom window layout and explain the render options.

Remember to save your project as a template and save your window layout so you can instantly get into video mode.

A couple things were cut from this video to keep it a manageable length, a couple quick tips should be up later in the week.

What about not discussing pre-releases anywhere else but in the forum?

“1. DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE ANYTHING FROM THIS WEBSITE
    2. USE VERSIONS FROM HERE WITH CAUTION AND AT YOUR OWN RISK
    3. DO NOT LINK TO THIS WEB SITE OR ANYTHING ON IT FROM ANYWHERE
    4. PLEASE DISCUSS ONLY IN THE PRE-RELEASE FORUM”

Yeah I don’t care. Cockos isn’t going to do anything to promote their product, they don’t do any social media. I’m creating some buzz for their product that’s in public beta.
They know how to contact me if they have a problem.

Brilliant! just getting into Reaper video editing. I agree with you Jon, the HUGE advantage is the superb Reaper editing is all there. MS Movie Maker and the Apple one are so clumsy, and the audio processing is so limited. Well impressed. Saved me a ton of time and made me kern more about the docker and screenshots too! Thanks, you’re a star.

Actually one thing I noticed, your track colour works differently to mine. How have you get it set up? So much quicker.

I just entered this but then it vanished…I think I had a typo in my email….anyway, thanks for the brilliant video. I agree the Reaper editing all working in the same way is a HUGE advantage. Made me learn about using the docker and screenshots too, which I hadn’t done before. A mini guide to the two of them to create multiple work space types would be very cool.

I actually do have a video on Toolbars and docks.
With screensets I use numbers 1 to 5 to load and Shift-1 to 5 to save.

I had started a video project in Premiere and it required a lot of Audio post production. I knew I wanted to use Reaper for the audio work but had no idea of its video capabilities. Thanks to your excellent tutorial I was able to complete it without a hitch. Now I am ready to take it back into Premiere for final video edits with a rock solid audio mix that’s already synced. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Jon!
