Have you ever wondered what a pro really does while mixing a song?
I’ve just finished creating a new video training product that gives you an over the shoulder look at one of my mixing sessions. It’s about four hours long and goes through the process of importing tracks, creating a rough mix, processing, automation and finally mastering.
The song was provided by Alejandro Hernandez, the genre is ‘video game metal’ consisting of 60 tracks of heavy guitars, fast drums and lots of synths. If you want to hear the original mix and music video, check out his YouTube Channel.
There’s something I need to stress about this video series. It is not a step by step, how-to-mix tutorial. Because that’s not how I approach mixing… but if you want the experience of having a mixing engineer explain his thought process to you as he’s mixing, this might be something you’d like. Sitting in on a mixing session is not something every home studio musician has an opportunity to do.
