AH Music gave me an awesome tip for editing videos, podcasts, audio books or other longform content.

Instead of going through and editing from left to right, listen to the content once and make regions around the good parts.

Use the SWS Region Playlist to crop the project to just those regions.

Cropping to the regions will also remove all your project markers. If you are inserting the content into a template, instead paste the regions at the edit cursor, then select and remove the original items.

One other important note, SWS Region Playlist does not preserve item grouping relationships. As a fix you can use this script, or my updated workflow linked below.

It’s actually a huge time saver and I’m now using this for editing all my videos, even if they’re only 3min long.

update Feb 2017 – This workflow has been improved with a cycle action and script. See Assemble Rough Cut From Regions

“Cropping to the regions will also remove all your project markers. If that’s a problem you can paste the regions at the edit cursor, then select and remove the original items.” Could you elaborate more on this please? When I “Paste playlist at edit cursor” from Region Playlist, the regions are pasted without markers. If I now select and remove the original items, the markers remain still and it will not be aligned with the newly appended regions.

been a while, but I think I was referring to how that would work in my own project template where I have markers before and after the uncut content and I don’t want to lose that.
Markers you used to mark the raw footage would be lost either way.

Region playlist also has the problem of losing item grouping, and for me sometimes it just stopped working entirely. I have a new workflow for this that is much better.
I will update this post now.
