Creating a distorted megaphone vocal effect using McDSP Futzbox or with free plugins included with REAPER.

TLDR:
Futzbox is the easy option with a million possibilities
Narrow bandwidth with ReaEQ,
Add Distortion (JS Guitar Fuzz or JS Waveshaping Distortion)
Use a Compressor or deEsser to reduce harshness
Use ReaVerb to load speaker emulation

The JS/Applefilter72dB is my favourite tool to narrow the frequency range. It has a lowpass and a highpass which can together form a bandpass. The filters can go up to 72dB/oct steepness. Thats way more than you can achieve with a ReaEQ band set to low/highpass which is only 12dB/oct I think. Great for telephone simulations. The greatest 3rd party plugin for that task is Engineers Filter for me. It simulates analog filters up to the 20th order with selectable formulas and filter types. It creates also the phase shiftings done by analog filter circuits which get pretty noticeable at 20th order with some formulas. Sounds very analogish.
That combined with a bit and the JS/amp model would make a decent megaphone simulation.

Very cool. there are so many great JS fx that no one knows about unless they stumble upon them by accident. I should look up Engineers Filter too, I just heard Deadmau5 talk about it recently.
