It’s Q&A time again and in this one I’m answering your questions about: VU Meters; Normalizing; Trim Volume automation; REAPER plugins VS 3rd party; and Podcasting.
Thank you to all that have subscribed on YouTube, are watching, sharing, liking and spreading the word. The next Q&A will be at 12000 subscribers.

01:30 – Drake Horde: I was watching a mixing video and the mixer was using a third party VU meter.
I don’t want to get out of control buying plugins I don’t need right now, but can you recommend any that are good for mixing that complement Reaper.
02:50 – Clarke Martty: I’ve had a mixing engineer say something to the effect of: normalizing is not a good thing to do for levels when rendering out. What is the verdict on normalizing tracks?
05:10 – Pim V Dorst: Can you explain the proper way to use the Trim Volume option, when and why?
06:05 – Steven Lewis: Do you feel all the stock plugins with REAPER match or exceed premier paid plugins? Which REAPER plugins do you feel are best, which are lacking, and have forced you to download or purchase external plugins?
09:20 – Ben Peillow: What mics work well for podcasting, and how do you go about recording The Mastering Show or The Home Recording Show when there’s two of you?

I agree that the ReaVerb plugin is less-than-stellar…but what about using it for convolution reverb?
Thanks for all you do to help us Reaper users, Jon!!

Jon, thanks again for your video. I am surprised that you have doubts about the quality of your video’s? Well, I think you are doing great. You have a good voice, speak well, explain good, have a good combination between explaining in words and showing hands-on. So, very well done! And above all: your English is for me very good to understand as not native English.
The only remark I would make is that I sometimes find all the image jumps (different takes) too much. I don’t mind when you are making a mistake, just continue. It’s normal conversation to make mistakes now and then and then correct them. For me it would make the video’s a bit more easy going without all the take jumps and seeing the image jump. I hope you understand what I mean. So, pelase keep up the good work and continue!
    Kind regards,
    Paul
