In this video (part 1) Most of the time spent will be preparing this song for mixing. There are a lot of tracks here and it takes a significant amount of time to get organized and clean up the tracks.

You’ll learn about

  • batch renaming tracks
  • combining items on a single track to reduce the track count
  • trimming dead space in items to reduce disk load
  • checking for phase issues with multi-mic guitars
  • getting a good balance with just faders and panning
  • and much more

In this video (part 2) we get into actual mixing and processing.

You’ll learn about

  • Processing bass guitar with EQ, Compression, Chorus, and Tube Drive
  • Automating drum room mics to enhance certain moments
  • Using the AIR Maximizer as a master limiter, how to manage its quirks
  • AIR Compressor for fat drum bus processing and room mic effects
  • The AIR Reverb plugin for drums and vocals

A lot of beginners are missing out on these plugins, because of how FAD many others are. But if you are on a tight budget, these FX are a great compliment to REAPER’s stock FX, and the Drums, Pianos, and Synths are REALLY nice. Structure 2’s stock library is not amazing, but it’s the best sampler you can get for $30 or less.

You could generally get the entire AIEP3 COMPLETE bundle for < $80 from Plugin Boutique. So they were a nice way to "complete" a DAW that ships with almost nothing, like REAPER (and Cakewalk by BandLab, to some extent).

You can also install Cakewalk by BandLab and get the:

    1. Saturation Knob (I think that's free, anyways /shrugs )
    2. Precussion Strip
    3. Vocal Strip
    4. Tube Leveler
    5. Boost11 Peak Limiter

They work outside of Cakewalk, in other DAWs.

Just copy them out into a Cakewalk subdirectory of your Steinberb\VstPlugins directory, then uninstall Cakewalk by BandLab (Lol).

The two Channel Strips, alone, are worth going through this minor hassle 😛

If you have ACID Pro (or Samplitude Pro), you can also use:

    1. MAGIX eFX
    2. Analogue Modeling Suite (or AM-Track SE)
    3. VariVerb II
    4. VANDAL (not VANDAL SE, though)

and some other plugins in Reaper, as well! You can probably install a Trial and rip the plugins out, but that isn't really recommended (because I don't think that's legal at all).
