Nick Storr from Sound On Sound Magazine shares a trio of tips on creating classic tape style effects in REAPER.

First is Varispeed recording where you record at half speed, then return to normal at playback. Note that while recording, the backing tracks are pitched down an octave, and on playback the recorded piano is up one octave.

The second trick is reverse tracking. He stacks vocals over a reversed backing track and flips it all around again. Pretty neat trick.

The third tip is on ramping up or down the speed of the song, shown both with master playrate and stretch markers

Very cool, and potentially useful editing tricks. I had no idea play rate was automatable… Then again, everything in REAPER is, just hadn’t thought of it. Thanks for sharing, Jon!
