Have you ever wondered what a pro really does while mixing a song?

Hey this is Jon and I welcome you to my first training course that gives you an over the shoulder look at one of my mixing sessions. Over the course of a few hours I take you through the process of importing and organizing files, creating a rough mix, processing, automation and finally quick mastering.

Sitting in on a mixing session is not something every home studio musician has the opportunity to do. I aimed to give the experience of sitting with me through a mix, sharing tips as I go and all for less cost than an hour of studio time.

Check out the introduction to the course in this video

There’s something I need to stress about this video series. It is not a step by step, how-to-mix tutorial for beginners. Because that’s not how I approach mixing… if you want the experience of having a mixing engineer explain his thought process to you as he’s mixing, this might be something you’d like.

Before you get into this course you should already have a good understanding of using EQ, single and multiband compressors, delay, reverb and other effect processors.

Here’s what you’ll learn from this course:

  • Equalizer techniques that get results fast
  • Compression starting points to get the mix under control
  • Gain staging strategies to avoid overloading the master
  • How to organize a complex project with over 60 tracks
  • Mix bus processing for control and enhancing
  • Using saturation plugins to add excitement
  • Technical and creative automation ideas that make every part of the mix special
  • How to quickly master a mix and make it sound finished

Fredrik KällbergI just watched part 4 for the second time and you have completely changed how I will approach the automation of a mix, this is going to be such a big improvement in my workflow […] I’m so glad I bought this.

When I record an additional track within a File, the time sequences don’t match?

Sorry, I don’t know what you mean by that

Trying to be fair and objective here… I wish the music selected for these tutorials was a little bit more taste neutral. Movie studios spend a lot of time/money deciding/creating music for their pictures that appeal to (or at least not irritate) the audience. That’s why there is some much ‘classical’ music in movies because it’s can be very genre neutral. If a movie studio makes a movie about a rapper trying to make the big time… they would obviously include a lot of rap music in the picture because the audience will no doubt enjoy that genre. Now if this was a series of tutorials on how to mix a specific type of music (rap, acid, metal, etc)… it would make sense but not for a general audience of new users to Reaper. Just my two cents… and probably worth less. 🙂

Will the videos be permanently available after purchase? I’m just wondering if I can refer back to them in future.
