REAPER version 5.30 update is out now and damn it’s a good one. Highlights include the new web-based control interface for remote controlling reaper from your phone/tablet; resizeable ReaEQ, ReaXcomp and ReaFIR; and Lyrics editor for easily adding lyrics to midi items, plus view the lyrics on a remote device.
Such a great update. You will really like all the new stuff in this one.

After making the video I sent a message to one of the developers, Schwa, asking about the benefit using rc.reaper.fm instead of entering the ip.

Schwa
The advantage is that you can bookmark it and it will always work, even if the local IP changes after a reboot, router reset, lease expiry etc. it will always redirect to whatever the computer’s current local IP is.

Corrections:
* It’s not necessary to add multiple instances of the Web browser interface, just add basic.html, click.html or lyrics.html to the address on your device.

** Dev Justin says:

Justin
the option to stop recording when timecode lost/drift are not because that the recordings would be unusable (The timecode sync has little to do with the audio quality), it’s so that if you have REAPER slaved to another device that sends timecode, it will automatically stop when your other device stops.

Wow, this is the first of these what’s new videos I’ve seen. I’ll have to go back and watch all of them so I can learn even more of what REAPER can do!

One question: the item volume seems to be different from the item properties -> volume/pan. This question is a bit open ended and asinine, but do you know why that is? Is there a reason I should use one and not the other?

    Thanks!

You definitely should, they’re some of my most popular videos and they’re packed with tips.

Why they’re different I don’t know. It’s not a difference like pre-and post-fx chain either. Mostly likely the one in properties was there first and the devs rarely remove something once it’s added to the program.
There’s also a take volume envelope for each take. I use item volume knob and take vol envelope most.

The new web control surface is brilliant!

Looking forward to see how this gets developed.

Thx for the video – I’d probably have missed this new feature without it.

The web interface is such a smart idea. I like using OSC, but the idea to have full HTML freedom to design custom control surfaces is just awesome.
I already imagine Reaper to be the background engine for web audio apps in the future….

I saw the lyrics editor part, but have no idea where you opened that editor. What did you click?

Your videos are freaking awesome… even have times showing which part of the video to skip too if need be, so useful! Thanx again ☺

Is there a way to remotely open a saved song (project) using a phone or a tablet?
