I’m sharing my video editing workflow that I have have been using for all of my videos.
This is an update to the workflow I showed last year in the “A trick for editing longform content” video (linked below).
This way uses a cycle action and script instead of the SWS region playlist. The benefit is faster workflow and item grouping remains intact.
You can use this workflow for editing audio or video content: tutorials, vlogs, podcasts, audiobooks, narrative, presentations.
The cycle action and script are available for download to my newsletter subscribers and patrons.
Edit 02-03-2017 – something that can interrupt the cycle action is other markers between the assembly area and the ‘selects’ regions. But if that’s the case there’s usually an error message for no time selection active.

I really want this to work!!! But its not… I did a quick test on a very long media item, made some regions, and then set my cursor to an earlier point in my selected track and ran the script all it seemed to do is move the edit cursor to the very beginning of the project. I double checked everything in the cycle action and the script but all seemed fine. The only thing that seems to happen is the edit cursor moves to the very beginning of the project.
Sounds like the cycle didn’t run at all. Did you import and then press apply?
Well, I did get the Cycle-Action to work, which is a fantastic invention btw, kudos for that! But I could only do so through the Cycle-Action editor. I should definitely mention that I have a PC and I am aware that you use a mac. So it’s either that or the script. I’ve tried running the script from the Action List directly, but again the cursor which I would have several bars out jumps right to the very beginning of the project. So I’m mostly there, just can’t trigger it through the script, I think. Thanks for the quick response too.
if you had to redo the cycle action your command ID will likely be different so you’ll have to modify the script to match. Cycle action 11 would need to be changed to 1.
Ahhh yes. It is indeed set to ID #4. So is there a way to renumber the ID #’s or should I just start over, because I would think you would just right click in the ID column of the CAE and find an option to change the ID #.
looks like you can’t change the order through the cycle action editor but if you find the script, click edit you can just change #11 to #4 and ctrl-S to save.
There we go! The my toolbar icon works great! Thanks a million! I’ll be sure to support you through Patreon, and I will continue to send my friends to your pages!
