REAPER 6 FAQ

REAPER version 6 has officially released and in this video I’ll be answering the most common questions I’ve seen over the past couple days.

Do I need to pay for this update?
Reaper licenses last for 2 full versions.
if you bought reaper during the 4.x or earlier, yes you need to buy again to use 6.
if you bought after 5.0 release then you’re still good until v7 is released.

Where is the pan/routing/input on the TCP?
In the Default 6 theme some track elements are hidden until needed, or if visible in the mixer.
example – pan knob and routing button is hidden from TCP if mixer view is open
Monitor enable and input selector hidden until track is record armed
this can be changed in the Theme Adjuster script

Does updating overwrite your install / can I update and keep settings?
Assuming you have already backed up your system recently you should have no trouble updating reaper 5 to 6.
If you like you can install version 6 as a portable install which makes it completely separate and self-contained. In this case you will have to also install extensions and import preferences, keymaps, menus, etc

Can I still use other themes?
Older themes will need to be updated to take advantage of v6 features but otherwise should function exactly the same as version 5.
Most reaper themes are on the “Stash” and installed by drag & drop into the reaper UI. http://stash.reaper.fm/

How to change the appearance?
Inside of reaper there are two ways to modify the theme to your preference
In the action list you’ll find “Script: Default_6.0_theme_adjuster.lua” (also in options menu under themes). This script adjusts the default layout and two other custom layouts, hidden track controls, track color scheme and other settings.
In the action list you’ll find “Theme development: Show theme tweak/configuration window”. In here you can change various colors related to items, grid lines, and fonts.
Don’t forget to save as a new theme file after.
